Ford has taken its market-driven approach to new levels by becoming the first global manufacturer to design and develop a car specially for India.

After the Escort, the Ikon comes as a breath of fresh air.Its classy and well proportioned looks make it the best looking car in its segment.

· New boot section has been neatly integrated with the body to give it a well balanced profile.
· Dashboard with white dials and sliver finish looks sporty.
· 410-litre boot has good height and low loading sill.
· Loads of legroom at the back.The flat centre section is to make comfy for three.
· Ikon has a fixed air conditioner vent aimed directly at the back seat.

The Ford Ikon is powered by a 1.6 litre, new-generation 4-cylinder in line which gives a power of 91@5500. The suspensions are independent suspension with conventional McPherson strut and lower arm in the front and semi-independant twist beam set up at the back.The right height and damper/spring values have ben suitably modified for Indian road conditions.Ford has generated a lot of feedback from Escort owners.A 1.3 litre petrol engine is also on the cards and Ford might considering introducing this at a later stage.

Safety
The Ford Escort has been designed on the principles of Dynamic Safety Engineering (DSE), which ensures that the car manages impact more efficiently, distributing loads more evenly through specific stress paths, and leaving the occupants protected.
