Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra is an ancient science-cum-philosophy, based on astrology and Hindu divinities, developed by the sages of yore to ensure good fortune for the home builder and dweller. It aims at providing guidelines for proper construction. Its a study of planetary influences on buildings and the people who live in them.
To receive all round happines, increase in health, wealth and peace one should give importance to VASTU in making of the house. It is because for this reason one gains or looses, if the house is made according to the principles of Vastu or otherwise.
The effect of Vastu can be explained in the following way.
There are three forces in action to create harmony. Wind, water and fire or, vaayu, jal and agni. If these forces are kept in their appropriate places, then there will be no disturbance. But if water is put in place of fire and wind in place of water or in any other combination, the forces will start acting accordingly and create disharmony and unpeacefulness.
Vastu Shastra says that everything on earth in some form or other is influenced by the nine planets, so every home is also under theinfluence of the governing planets. Different planets have beneficial influences on certain rooms. Each of the nine planets gaurd a direction

How will it help me
Vaasthu is basically aimed at harnessing the higher energy levels within the self and can help in various aspects of life such as :
• Increasing earning potential
• Helping in rising higher in career
• Success in studies
• Enhancing Marital bliss
• Ensuring good health
• Freedom from tensions and anxieties
       
An ideal dwelling unit in the Northern Hemisphere,As per Vastu Shastra should face East, should have kitchen in the South East.
Have water source in the North East, the plot should slope towards North East, the South West should be higher than North East, Western wall should be thicker, trees etc should be planted in the West,- all very scientific and remarkable considering the Shastra was conceived in the early period human civilization.
Now the occult part of Vastu
The owner and his consort should have their room in the South West, stores heavy articles along the South or South Western wall, puja or worship room in the North East, guest room or room for the female progeny in the North West, study in the North East or East, generators in the South West, main gate North East or any other direction except South or South West.
The Suggestion
Please do not ever get scared of vastu related faults, their adverse effects are often exaggerated. Most of us reside/function, in premises acquired by us not by choice but by chance and have little or no control over the way these have been built or positioned. Moreover what was relevant or of significance yesterday may not be valid today.there are however certain basic requirements which we should try to meet whereever possible.
The basic requirements.
(1) a house or a factory should be built on a squre or rectangular plot only. Circular, triangular or plots of land with more than four sides are not considered good. There should be no high mounds, hillocks or high rise buildings in the east or north east.
(2)the plot should preferably have road on the east or northern side or both.
(3) leave more open space in the north east.
(4) the souuth west should be heavier i.e. not only the walls in this direction should thicker but all heavey material should be stored in this side.
(5) south west portion of the building should be higher than the one in the north east to ensure coolness in the north east.this aspect of vastu is of great relevance in the case of factories/industrial units (residential units by and large take this into consideration as matter of routine to the extent it is feasible )

The Scientific vastu
Vastu – the ancient art of making a comfortable dwelling was developed in india keeping in view the geographical location , direction of winds etc., As available in the sub-continent. It had as such no occult significance. The purpose was to make the best use of the elements as also to save ourselves from their fury

The Occult vastu
Ancient hindus had another belief which they firmly followed. They believed everything had a spirit. So even the piece of land on which you construct your house has a spirit. That spirit must be propitiated and its help invoked to ensure a happy healthy and harmonious life.
The planets .
In vastu as in a horoscope certain positions and patterns are pointer to specific results and consequences.. For example if your house is cluttered with unwanted things, things that have just been lying in the house for decades, things that are not likely to be used in the forseeable future, it will put your house under the bad effect of rahu. You are leaving less space for the cosmic forces and by doing so making yourself vulnerable to various kinds of problems .
North east belongs to moon, so keeping an iron safe or box in the northeast corner (iron represents saturn) is not likely to bring good results. Venus hs been assigned the south west corner, therefore the main bedrom should be in the southwest.south east is the domain of mars – the firey planet , so a well, a water tap or hand pump will be not in keeping with the nature of this direction.
Our mind is a super powerhouse – which is capable of releaseing very subtle vibrations – negative or positive .the choice is ours. A positive attitude can overcome many a shortcomings relating to vastu or your to horoscope

Treasury & Strong Room

Wealth and cash should be stored in the North.
The person should face towards north when storing or retreiving cash.

Puja Room

The Puja Room should be located in the North East direction.
Alternatively, it can located in the North or East direction.
While worshipping, the person should face the East.
Idols should not exceed 6 inches in height.
One should not sleep in the Puja Room.
This direction is ideal for Water storage. Thus underground water tanks, filter etc. should be kept in this direction.

Bathroom

The bathroom should ideally be located in the East.
Alternatively, it can be located in the North-West.
But the bathroom should never be located in the North East.
Wash basin etc. should be mounted on the Eastern wall of the bathroom.
Geyser should be installed in the South-East corner.

Kitchen

The kitchen ideally, should be towards South-East, the direction of God of Fire.
Alternatively, it can located in the North West.
Cook should face the East or North.
All items pertaining to fire or heat should be installed in the South-East corner.
The Main-switch, generators etc. should be located in the South-East corner of the house.

Bedroom

The main bedroom should be located in the South.
If the bedroom is located in the North, there would be unrest in the family.
The bed should be placed in such a way that while sleeping, the head is towards the South.
Alternatively, head can face towards the West.
One should never sleep with legs towards the South.
The inmates should not take meals in the bedroom otherwise they will suffer bad health, especially while they sit on the bed while eating.
Divine idols should not be kept in the bedroom.

Jewellery, Heavy Equipment

Jewellery should be kept facing the South. It results increase in wealth.
All heavy machines, equipments etc. should be kept in this part of the house.
Old goods can also be stored in this direction.

Dining Hall

Dining Room should be towards the West as it is ruled by Saturn and it is in the way of Bhooteshwara, the symbolic representation of the hungry.
It trees are to be planted in the premises, they can be planted in this direction i.e. the West.

Study or Children's Room

Children's room can be located in this corner i.e. the North West.
The study room can also be located in this direction.
Water Tank on the Roof of the house should located in this direction.
This direction is also ideal for Cattle and Granary store.

Miscellaneous

Land
The length of the land should not be more than twice the breadth.
The land should not be too porous i.e. should not absorb water very fast.
The slope of the land should be such that water flows towards North-East. The slope of the roof should be such that water should flow towards North or East.
The house should not be constructed on the land which is a dead end.

Doors
The Main-Gate should have two panels.
The main door should not open inside the house.
The doors in the house should not be noisy.
The total number of doors, windows and ventilators in the house should be even in number for eg. 2, 4, 6 etc. but should not end with a 0 i.e. 10, 20 etc.
If the front door frame is painted black, then the owner might have to face hardship.
If the door has cracks or is too old, then the owner will have a tough time gaining respect in society.

Staircase
If the steps leading to the entrance are damaged or broken, then the master of the house will face problems with his career and his expenses will soar.
The staircase should ascend clockwise.
The total no. of steps should be such that on division by 3, a remainder of 2 should be obtained for eg. 7, 11, 17 etc.

Interiors
Bright colours should not be used in the house. Cold and light colours should be used for painting the house.
Paintings or photographs depicting war, sad faces, birds like owl, crow, pegion, erotic pictures etc. should not be used for decoration in the house.
