Some of the common skin problems There is excessive secretion of sebum the oil glands , which gives rise to: Seborrhoea There is excessive secretion of sebum by the oil glands, which gives rise to a greasy skin thereby producing white heads, blackheads and acne on the skin. Whiteheads are the accumulations of sebum under the skin. Blackheads are masses of hardened sebum commonly found on the nose and forehead. They block the hair follicles. When these blackheads get infected, they give rise to acne. Acne There are various types of acne-papules, pustules and cysts. Papules are small, inflamed red spots. Pustules have a yellow head and may develop from a papule. Cysts result from severe inflammation and often leave behind scars. They are painful and sore to touch. During puberty, due to rise in the level of sex hormones, the oil glands are over-productive, but gradually stabilise in the older age groups, and the acne lesions disappear. Acne worsens with oily, spicy food, stimulants, late nights, stress, constipation and gastric disorders. The indicated homeopathic remedies are: Berberis Aquifolium, Natrum-Mur, Hepar Sulph, Nitric Acid, Pulsatilla and Psorinum. Wrinkling of skin There is a condition that arises when there is decreased secretion of sebum and the skin is extremely dry, flaky and itchy with a tendency to premature aging and wrinkling. The indicated homeopathic remedies are: Petroleum, Sulphur, Lycopodium Pigmentation disorders The colour of the skin is determined by the pigment melanin. A small amount of pigmentation is known as a tan, and is due to over-exposure to sunlight. Small spots on the face are called freckles. When a person has a butterfly patch on the nose and cheeks, it is called chloasma. Absence of pigmentation at birth is albinism, and when patches of skin are devoid of pigmentation, it is called vitiligo or leucoderma. The indicated homeopathic remedies for black pigmentation and sun-tan are Natrum-Mur, Lachesis. For chloasma: Sepia, Lycopodium. Use moisturisers They help in sealing in the body's own natural moisturiser, and make the skin look soft, moist and youthful. Drink plenty of water Water moisturises your skin cells from within, and helps to flush out waste products through the kidneys. Apply a light eye and neck cream Remember, the skin in these parts is delicate, contains fewer oil glands and wrinkles easily. Avoid alcohol, smoking and wrong eating habits They produce a sallow, blemished complexion. Maintain a constantweight Otherwise, the skin loses its elasticity and the collagen fibres break, resulting in sagging as well as ugly stretch marks on the skin. Practice smiling and avoid frowning Your facial expression are imprinted on your skin, as is your age. Protect your eyes from the sun's harsh glare Using sun glasses will prevent wrinkling of the skin around the eyes. Do regular facial Use gentle herbal and homoeopathic creams to clean the skin and keep it glowing. . |
