The sizeable Muslim communities have their Ids in common with Muslims across the world. Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha and Id-i-Milad are the three festive occasions widely celebrated by Muslims in India.

Id is celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement all over the country, with Muslims of all ages, from all sections of society wearing new clothes and visiting mosques to offer namaaz.

Devotees flock to the tombs of many Sufi saints, especially during the urs or death anniversaries. The favourite urs are centred at tombs in towns like Ajmer, Delhi, Manakpur, Nagore and Dongri.

The Islamic Calendar :-
The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, with 12 lunar months comprising a year. Thus, the calendar regresses over a period of 33 years. Each month begins with the first sighting of the new moon. If, due to poor visibility the moon is not sighted for several nights then a new month starts no later than 30 days after the previous month has started.

The names of the months are:

Muharram, Safar, Rabia I, Rabia II, Jumada I, Jumada II, Rajeb, Shaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhu al-Qadah, Dha al-Hijjah.
