Bhadali :Even as godowns across India are overflowing with grain,
people in some parts of the country are ironically dying of
starvation. Despite the public outcry, in the Aurangabad district in
Maharashtra, 12 adivasi children have died of malnutrition in the last
month alone. One family has already lost their two-year-old son. But
they have no time to grieve. They have to worry about where they will
get food for their other children. “My son did not get food and
died. We are in a bad condition. We are worried about what we will
feed our boys," said Shobha Bai.
Twelve children have died from malnutrition in the last month and more
than 20 are extremely malnourished. Adding to the problems is the
landless and unemployed status of most of Bhadali's adivasi
residents.Apart from malnutrition problem, the residents of this
village are unhappy with the government’s medical negligence.
Government aid here is almost non-existent. "We did not get
anything in hospital. So we walked back 50 kilometres and reached
home," said Kadubai Thackrey, a resident of the area.In the last
four months, the government medical team has been here only twice.
Unless aid reaches Bhadali soon, the situation here could deteriorate
even further.
