• Apply a little oil to the inside of the candle holder before placing the candle in it. After it burns, the wax will come out easily,making it much easier to clean.

• Ironing over plastic buttons or elastic can stain the iron. Never scrape the residue off with a knife. Instead, apply paraffin wax on the plate and rub off immediately with a damp cloth. Scorch marks can be rubbed off with damp kitchen salt.

• If your leather goods have fungus over them, mix a little soda bicarb with milk, clean them thoroughly with this mixture and then polish with a soft cloth soaked in lavender oil. The fungus and the odour will disappear and the leather will gleam again.

• To clean the inside of an oven, apply a paste of soda bicarb and water on its inner walls and floor. Keep it on low heat for about 30 mins. Brush off the dried paste. The burnt fat and stains will vanish!

Sparkling Clean

• Put a piece of camphor into your jewel box - it will prevent the jewellery from being tarnished and the stones will retain their lustre.

• Soak your diamond jewellery in a little water for about 15 minutes. Add some washing powder to this and boil the mixture for 7-8 minutes and watch your ornaments sparkle.

• To shine patent leather, apply a dab of petroleum jelly or baby oil and buff with a soft, dry cloth.

• To clean silver vessels, apply toothpaste and keep aside for five minutes. Rinse in water. You will find your silver sparkling like new.
