The Prithvi Theater Festivals began in 1983, the brainchild of Jennifer Kapoor, in celebration of the Prithvi Theatre's 5th anniversary. These five years had proved that Prithvi Theatre had cultivated a discerning theatre audience and initiated a theatre movement. The Festival brought to Bombay the best Indian talent from across the country, as well as International theatre companies.
Since 1983 the Prithvi Theatre has played host to 12 Festivals, 6 of which have been International, and two have been Children' s Theatre Festivals.
Theater audiences as well as theatre groups across the country await November- the month our annual theatre festival takes place. Audiences bear the terrible traffic of Bombay to get to the Prithvi Theatre on time, for they are sure to see something of quality ( . . . and late comers are turned away!!).
Of late we have spread our wings and organised performances of the Festival in other auditoria in Bombay, as well as tours across the country.
The Prithvi Festival 1997, took a look at Theatre of India Today.
And Prithvi Festival1998, an international festival, will bring the best of European theatre to the country.
Given below are some photographs from the Prithvi
International Festival 1995.
